Called out today to look at replacing a bathfan and GFCI that had arc’d and had burnt some of the receptacle, both located in the front foyer bathroom. I also took a look at previously installed smoke detectors that had gone off over the weekend. Customer wanted us to check to make sure all smoke detectors were working correctly. I tested all of the smoke detectors and checked all of their wiring harnesses, and saw no issues. The downstairs detector stated it had previously detected smoke. We believe a foreign object had gotten into this detector, causing it to alarm. Opening up the bathfan, I saw that the housing was significantly rusted and starting to fall apart. I gave solutions to replace the bathfan with a Panasonic Whisper fan and replace the burnt GFCI. Customer agreed to go forward with solutions and also purchased the Haas and Sons VIP Membership.

For this job, we estimated customer requested new ceiling fan installations. The first ceiling fan is in the living room, where we will be deriving power from nearby switch bank and pulling the switch leg to the desired fan location, installing a fan box and then the ceiling fan. The second ceiling fan is in the bedroom, where we will be rewiring a switched receptacle and utilizing the existing switch location to pull the fan switch leg from to the desired fan location, installing a fan box and the ceiling fan. Both locations have attic access we can utilize. We provided options with standard switching and fan control switching. **We were unable to see the panel as it is in the tenants room and they were not present during our estimate. We would like to see the electrical panel as we will be adding to the electrical system.**

Today while inspecting the electrical issues in the basement, i made the customer aware of the hazardous state her main panel was in. I explained the double tapped neutrals, shared neutral circuits, and the illegal tandems. The breakers currently installed are not rated for the panel and were used due to needing space for newer circuits. I expressed that this will need to be replaced due to the over all safety of the home. Customer was also aware of the service cable having a tear located in the top of the cable and the lower portion of the cable. We recommended a whole heavy up with new panel replacement and grounding updated. Customer was aware and will schedule if deciding to move forward.
