However, a flat rate aka fixed price repair cost does not. We prefer this method, as it is never based on the electrician’s speed or efficiency, and provides up-front pricing for you in Bowie.

Case Study: Electrical System Remediation
This visit was prompted by a homeowner's concern over persistent flickering lights when appliances were in use, despite a recent electrical upgrade. Upon arrival, we assessed the situation and discovered a 200-amp Eaton panel that had been replaced just last year (2024). However, our inspection revealed several serious issues that could potentially jeopardize the home's electrical safety and functionality.
Key findings from our assessment included:
Missing knockouts in the panel, which could lead to safety hazards.
Aluminum-to-copper connections that were not properly equipped with aluminconn connectors, posing a risk of overheating and failure.
Grounds and neutrals were separated, but the bonding screw was still installed, a code violation that could lead to improper grounding and potential electrical hazards.
Old breakers still installed, which were likely outdated and less efficient.
An incorrect service cable that was not up to code for the electrical load.
Persistent flickering of lights when appliances were in use, indicating an ongoing electrical strain.
The homeowner shared that a previous company had suggested a "heavy up" to resolve the flickering lights, but the issue remained unresolved, causing concern. While some of the devices in the home needed to be replaced due to age and condition—particularly the aluminum wiring—the condition of the electrical panel also raised significant red flags.
During our inspection, we found no signs of smoke or burning, but the potential for more serious issues, like overheating or even fire, was still present due to the improper connections and outdated components. Based on our findings, we recommended a full remediation of the aluminum wiring throughout the home, the replacement of outdated electrical devices, and a thorough update of the electrical panel to ensure the home’s safety and to resolve the flickering issue once and for all.
This case emphasizes the importance of addressing both the wiring and the panel in older homes with aluminum wiring, as well as the need for professional inspections to identify underlying issues that may not be immediately apparent.
Whole-Home Inspection & Safety Updates
We arrived onsite to complete a full whole-home electrical inspection and review the overall condition of the system. During the visit, we discussed the age of the electrical panel, the possibility of a future redevice, and the condition of the smoke detectors. We also identified a failing dimmer switch in a downstairs bedroom that needed attention.
After completing the inspection, we sat down with the homeowner to go over everything in detail and provided clear options for both immediate improvements and a potential panel replacement down the road.
That same day, we replaced three outdated smoke and carbon monoxide combo detectors and installed a new dimmer switch in the bedroom. We also renewed her VIP membership plan to help keep her home protected moving forward. It was a great step toward improving both safety and long-term electrical reliability.
Fixing a Flickering LED Light
The homeowner called us back after noticing that a light fixture we previously installed was flickering. After taking a look, we found that the issue wasn’t the fixture itself but an older dimmer switch that wasn’t compatible with the newer LED light.
LED fixtures require specific dimmers to operate properly, and outdated switches can often cause flickering or inconsistent performance. Once we replaced the old dimmer with a compatible model, the light worked exactly as it should.
It was a simple fix, but an important one. If you’re upgrading to LED lighting and notice flickering, the dimmer switch may be the real issue.
Basement Lighting Upgrade Consultation
We arrived onsite and were shown three older fluorescent fixtures installed into the drywall ceiling in the basement, all controlled by a single switch at the bottom of the stairs. The homeowners were looking to explore better lighting options for the space.
After discussing a few possibilities, we explained that if the ceiling were to be opened up, it would be a great opportunity to modernize the area with recessed lighting. Based on the size of the space, we recommended installing six to eight recessed lights on a dimmer to provide even, adjustable lighting throughout the basement.
We provided a few written options and walked them through the next steps. They’re now deciding whether to move forward with the lighting upgrade or incorporate it into a larger basement remodel with their contractor. Either way, they have a clear path toward brighter, more functional lighting.

Install 3 customer supplied occupancy sensors and replace 2 receptacles in living & dining room, and 2 switches in upstairs bathrooms. Called out today to install multiple customer supplied occupancy sensors. When I arrived customer showed me to the locations he wanted the sensors installed; one for the dining island light, one for the main bathroom center light, and one for the hallway bathroom light. I was also shown two outlets that had become loose or had been damaged. I also offered to replace any other switches located in the switch banks where the occupancy sensors were being installed. Customer agreed to proceed with work. While opening the damaged devices, I saw that these devices were original to the home. It is recommended every 15-20 years that these devices be replaced. The devices were also backstabbed. This type of wiring method loosens over time, causing power loss issues. Due to these factors, I recommended a whole home redevice of the old devices. Replace gfci Replace 2 outside plugs Exterior receptacles on the front and the back of the home were an extremely bad condition and extremely rusted and broken apart. The GFCI that controlled these receptacles is located in the main panel and was the original one to when the house was built, which was having a hard time staying reset. Today we went ahead and replaced the two exterior plugs with new weather resistant devices with in use covers. We also went ahead and replaced the GFCI that controls the outside plugs.
For this job, we came out to perform a diagnostic on bathroom circuit where GFCI would not reset. We determined bad GFCI’s and replaced (3), (1) in each bathroom. Additionally, we removed under cabinet lights and replaced the receptacle, installed a GFCI at the Washer, hot/cold bond at water heater and installed a whole home surge protector inside the panel to update the missing safety components for today’s minimum standards. Customer state they are selling home soon. 03/10/2026 Today we replaced the damaged service cable, restoring power by using temporary splice to the old service cable. Old cable to be removed by BGE, with the new being tied into the meter after the county inspection. Additinally, per county inspectors, we drove (2) new ground rods and ran new ground wire connected to each rod, through the bonding bridge and into the panel, proving an updated Main Ground Electrode System. For this job we came out to open up devices, looking for potential damage. We found back stabbed wiring method on devices as well as damaged service cable. We provided options for both individually as well as together. Customer decided to move forward with the service cable replacement with membership. Scheduled for Tuesday March 3 Replace damaged SEU from meter to panel, using splice bugs to provide power temporarily until BGE tie in Permit and BGE coordination included In order to pass PG County inspection for the Service Cable Replacement, we need to
