Replace customer supplied fan in living room and replace receptacle and switch by kitchen sink. Called out today to install a customer supplied light and investigate lights in the kitchen that were flickering. When I arrived, customer showed me to the kitchen, a switch controlled the light above the sink and 4 fluorescent lights above the cabinets, providing accent lighting. I saw that these lights were plugged into a receptacle on the top of the cabinets. Due to the age, the ballasts are starting to fail, causing the flickering. I recommended replacing the fixtures, but the customer just wanted me to unplug them, as they don’t need to use them. Opening up the switch bank, I pulled the switches out, and power to the light immediately turned off. This told me that the switch was broken internally, and needed to be replaced, along with the receptacle in the bank.
