Called out today to investigate a circuit that was not working. When I arrived, customer showed me to the kitchen, informing me that the circuit had stopped working when a coffee maker was plugged in, and that sparks had shot out of the outlet. This caused the fridge and other kitchen outlets to stop working, as well as plugs in the adjacent play room. I used my plug tester in the sparking device, and saw that it was intermittently working. I opened the receptacle up and saw burning and scorching on the terminals of the device. Due to this, I also gave a solution to rejuvenate the other kitchen circuit, as a preventative measure to stop a similar power loss issue in the future from occurring. One of

Install jbox and extend cut wire Customer had plumbers open up the wall to install new drain lines for a washer and then doing so they cut the wire going to the refrigerator. I was able to pull the wire back and install a junction box on the opposite side of the wall where the washer and dryer located. I installed roughly a 2 foot jumper wire from the junction box to the existing receptacle and splice it through. Once complete completed everything is back up and running.
For this job, we came out for a flickering light in the bathroom and found a loose connection on the switch causing the intermittent issue. Opened up a few more devices and determined there was a pattern of the “backstab” wiring method throughout. I educated the customer on potential hazards and showed with photos from a recent re-device how we remediate the issue. Customer stated that she has a maintenance coming up in the summer and would like to wait until then for a re-device estimate to prepare. Also mentioned beefing up the surge protection from the existing 25kva rated surge to our 120kva rated surge.
For today’s visit was for a power loss to the septic pump. In our investigation we found it was connected to a switch in the basement, and we regained power. Then they had another power loss at their island receptacles, it was on with the old boiler breaker they had off. We regained power there after resetting the breaker, and we put a blank plate on the old emergency switch. They are replacing the dock in summer, so we will be here for the electrical quotes then. Lastly they had a fire due to a flare set off by somebody that landed in their yard, and it melted the pvc and the scuba panel outside. We wrote a solution to replaced that. It would also require us to drive ground rods for the sub panel.
