This is to perform an extended diagnostics in order to locate the transformer supplying power to their current door doorbell video camera. After transformer was located we will change it out with a 24v transformer to supply proper voltage to video doorbell camera
Install 3 company supplied smoke detectors and install 2 new detectors in each bedroom, running wire from current box in upstairs hallway. Add bonding wire between hot and cold water pipes for water heater. Called out today to investigate installing new smoke detectors on each floor, and adding a smoke detector in each bedroom. Performing my performance and safety assessment, I discovered that the water heater did not have the proper bonding between the hot and cold water pipes. I also saw that the panel did not have whole home surge protection. I gave a solution to replace and add additional smoke detectors, add a bonding wire, and install a whole home surge protector. Customer went with the “Replace” option.
Today’s visit was to take a look at a damaged fan control switch & dimmer switch that controlled a ceiling fan in the office/den area. When I arrived, I met with Ben’s parents who were assisting with the visit while he is out of town. I was shown to the problem switches where I saw that the switches were not very secure and they were starting to come apart when removed from the wall. This was the only thing that they wanted me to look at today, so I created solutions for the replacement of both switches. I only had a dual fan/light control on the van with me to use as the fan control switch replacement, but they were ok with me using that switch and leaving the light portion to be controlled by the second dimmer switch. Today, I replaced both switches, and the light/fan are working properly again. - removal and replacement of damaged fan control switch - removal and replacement of damaged dimmer switch
Replace bathfan with Panasonic Whisper bathfan. Includes Haas and Sons VIP Membership. Called out today to investigate a bathfan that was making a loud noise. Customer brought me to the fan, which when turned on was very loud, comparable in tone to a jet engine, that could be heard all throughout the house. Opening up the fan, I saw that a previous company had replaced the motor, but not the housing. Looking at the louvres, I saw a significant build up of dust and rust, that appeared to prevent the louvres from opening fully, causing the sound. Continuing with my safety assessment, I went down to the panel. There, I saw multiple multiwire branch circuits not on the correct two pole breakers, and double tapped neutrals, which could result in overheating. I also saw no surge protection. I brought these issues to the customers attention, who then directed me to outside lights that were not working. Fixtures appeared to be at least 15-20 years old, many without bulbs or having broken on
For this call, I came out for our Annual maintenance check up as well as customer requested work. Overall the main electrical system was in good condition meeting today’s minimum safety requirements. I completed the replacement of (2) light fixtures, (2) WRTR GFCI and in use covers and the addition of a new dedicated 20A GFCI in the basement under the panel. I also provided an estimate for lighting updates to be done on our next visit. Customer it to purchase (2) flood lights with motion sensor and photocell for her driveway to illuminate when coming and going as needed without worrying about having to manually control the lights. I am to provide an addition estimate after doing some home work on a landscape logging package for the front walkway with a plugin transformer and smart plug that can be paired with a wireless switch, as well as a motion sensing light for the interior of the garage over the step down. Customer planning for this work to be done late May/early June. Replace

I feel as if I had a much-needed lesson in home electricity operation from Michael. As a former teacher myself, I felt he did a good a job of explaining what he was about to do, considering I am unfamiliar with many of the technical terms. He and Blaine seemed to be working very efficiently, and I was delighted to have so many little problems corrected within the 5 (or so) hours they were here. I feel that my house is much safer now, and many household tasks will be easier for me to complete than they were before. Thank you, Michael and Blaine! (I don't really feel I can fairly evaluate the cost since my experience is so limited, and I had no other estimates.)
