Diagnosing Power Loss
When we are called in to diagnose the loss of power to your home, whether it's the entire house, half of the house lost power, or just a few outlets and fixtures, we typically take a few steps to identify the problem. We'll check the circuit breaker to see if it has tripped. If it has, we'll reset it and see if power is restored. If it keeps tripping, that indicates an overload or short circuit on the circuit. If the circuit breaker is working correctly, we may inspect all the outlets and switches in an area without power to look for any signs of damage or loose connections. We'll also check for tripped GFCI outlets. To check these outlets and switches, we'll use a voltage tester, to see if there is power present at each outlet or switch. This can help determine if the problem is just one outlet, or in multiple outlets. If our electricians suspect a wiring issue, we'll inspect the wires in the powerless area to determine if there's damage, a fixture that's faulty, or loose connections causing a short, or burn damage to the wires. We may also use a wire tracer to locate any breaks in the wiring. If those steps fail to diagnose the issue, we will test the main circuit breaker box to see if there are any issues with the breakers or wiring.
Installing Dedicated Circuits near Laurel, MD
There are a few reasons why you might want a dedicated circuit in your home. Firstly, it can help prevent overloading of the electrical system, which is a potential fire hazard. It can also reduce the risk of electrical shock by making sure that only one appliance is connected to the circuit.
Another benefit of having a dedicated circuit is that it can provide consistent power to an appliance, even if other appliances are being used at the same time. This is especially helpful for high-power appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, hot tubs, saunas, pools, or electric water heaters.
Install or Repair Bathroom Fans
Installing or replacing a bathroom exhaust fan is a simple yet essential task that can significantly improve the air quality in your home.
The first step is to choose the appropriate size and type of fan based on the bathroom's dimensions and ventilation needs. Once we have your new fan, we'll need to turn off the power to the existing fan, remove it from the ceiling or wall, and disconnect the wiring. The new fan can then be installed, with the ductwork properly attached and secured, and the wiring reconnected. Finally, turn the power back on, and we're all set to enjoy improved ventilation and a fresher bathroom environment.
Ceiling Fan Installation or Replacement
An electrician to replace or install a ceiling fan in your living room or bedroom will ensure that the fan is safely and properly installed, following all necessary building codes and safety guidelines required near Laurel, MD. They can also provide advice on the appropriate fan size and type for your space and help with any necessary electrical upgrades. Hiring a professional can save you time, effort, and frustration, and ensure that your fan is installed correctly, avoiding potential safety hazards or costly mistakes. Arrived onsite and she explained to me that she had been replacing the batteries, some are newer, some are older but the one keeps beeping every hour on the dot. Sure enough, it was 10 years old, had a replaceable battery inside. After walking throughout the house i found a total of 3 smoke carbon combos, and 6 smoke detectors , 3 in each of the bedrooms on each floor. After taking a look at them i made recommendation’s for her to chose from and we went ahead and replaced them all for the new 10 year sealed battery, hardwired version of each. While I was there we also discussed the possibility of recess lighting in her entry living room so i wrote up options with 4 and 6 for her to see and chose from. All the new smoke detectors are in and verified working properly.
Arrived onsite and the resident showed me to the the smoke detectors he said were taken down a long time ago. He is in a 4 story townhome and had 4 hardwired setups, but only 1 outdated beeping smoke detectors on the third floor. I talked to him about various setups including adding smoke detectors in the bedrooms, but he was only interested in putting up the bare minimum to match what was in he home. I showed him pricing on replacing all 4 smoke/carbon detectors throughout the home and he wanted to get that done now, so that’s what we did. Once all 4 were installed, we tested and verified their all working properly.
Reason for today’s call was partial power loss in living room. During assessment, we saw that the issue was backstabbed devices. There was a loose neutral in one receptacle and a loose hot in another receptacle. We recommend doing a whole home re-device, however, the customer decided to go with the single circuit replacement today as well as panel corrections. Customer has a CH panel with neutrals and grounds needing to be separated. Please see below for work performed. Also, please see attached for solution to replace the rest of the devices in the home at your earliest convenience. Thank you. Replace devices (7 in total) on affected circuit Correct double tapped neutrals in main panel.
Reason for today’s visit was to install EV circuit. This would be an EV rated receptacle on a 50A GFCI breaker. We would also pull a permit and have the work inspected. Please see attached.
This solution includes the installation of a customer supplied doorbell camera and thermostat. We have installed the new customer supplied devices.
