Though you can technically install an outlet yourself, it is strongly recommended that you have a licensed electrician perform the work instead. There are a number of reasons for this, including:
- If an outlet is not installed correctly, it could fail a code inspection
- An improperly done outlet might cause electric shock or fire. If officials determine that a fire was started by inadequate work performed by the homeowner, the homeowner’s insurance can technically deny coverage for any of the damage caused by the faulty outlet.
- An electrician will not only be able to install the outlet correctly, they can ensure it is working properly after installation and within the boundaries of the circuit breaker.
For comprehensive electrical outlet services, contact the experts at Haas & Sons today!
To wire an outlet in a new location will take an electrician several hours to complete. If an electrician is simply replacing an outlet in an existing location it will be a much quicker job.
The cost of installing a new outlet will range between $185 - $300. Some things that could affect this price include:
- Is there aluminum wiring?
- Is the wiring burnt?
- Is the wiring old and needs special precautions taken?
- Does the homeowner need to upgrade to a different type of outlet?

Arrived onsite to troubleshoot dishwasher and among getting inside we first took a look at the panel and it was replaced in 2016 and done pretty well, but is lacking whole home surge protection. We then went upstairs and found a switch under the sink that was direct disconnecting means to the dishwasher. We turned it on and power was restored. Upon doing my performance and safety assessment i also noticed the smoke detectors throughout the home were about to be over 10 years old, most aren’t lit up and they are not the 10 year sealed battery version. Otherwise it looks as if the house has been rewired in 2016.
Original visit was for troubleshooting a partial power loss of a circuit. It was determined that the feed from the hallway bathroom fixture to the switch bank in the master bathroom was the culprit of the power loss. The devices on the circuit were also very old and backstabbed. While running the new feed, we accidentally drilled through the ceiling, missing the wall cavity. Attached are the referrals to get this taken care of. Please send the invoice to the office and we will reimburse you. Please see below for work performed to get this issue taken care of. Re feed circuit from hallway bathroom to master bath Extended diagnostic for troubleshooting Re-device bedroom circuit Customer also has a Wadsworth panel. I highly recommend getting this replaced as it is a serious safety issue. Please see attached for estimate to get this taken care of for you as well.
Arrived onsite and she showed us to the basement where we were told a few outlets were having issues tripping breakers, and the gfci was tripping for the hvac system supposedly. I went throughout the basment, did load draws on all the circuits involved in this situation and found there were 2 dedicated plugs for both deep freezers that combined drew a max of about 4.2 amps, but then a backup battery system for the whole internet was drawing over 10 amps alone. I separated them out so they wouldn’t cause issues and then addressed the gfci issue. There was one gfci in the panel room that had all the outside outlets, one in the other unfinished area of the basement, and then an outlet that fed the lighting, and the power to the condensate pump outlet on the furnace. I removed the load and she isn’t going to use the one outlet. The panel room needed the gfci replaced because it was bad but i also line sides the line going to the hvac room, so i could put a separate gfci in there to control
