Though you can technically install an outlet yourself, it is strongly recommended that you have a licensed electrician perform the work instead. There are a number of reasons for this, including:
- If an outlet is not installed correctly, it could fail a code inspection
- An improperly done outlet might cause electric shock or fire. If officials determine that a fire was started by inadequate work performed by the homeowner, the homeowner’s insurance can technically deny coverage for any of the damage caused by the faulty outlet.
- An electrician will not only be able to install the outlet correctly, they can ensure it is working properly after installation and within the boundaries of the circuit breaker.
To wire an outlet in a new location will take an electrician several hours to complete. If an electrician is simply replacing an outlet in an existing location it will be a much quicker job.
The cost of installing a new outlet will range between $185 - $300. Some things that could affect this price include:
- Is there aluminum wiring?
- Is the wiring burnt?
- Is the wiring old and needs special precautions taken?
- Does the homeowner need to upgrade to a different type of outlet?
On average you can expect to pay between $75 - $150 to have an electrician replace an existing ceiling fan for your home near Gambrills MD.

Once again, Nick did a fantastic job in our home. We needed a solution to deal with a breaker box that was full. Nick gave us all of our options and did not pressure us one way or the other. Once our decision was made he finished the work the same day. I highly recommend Haas & Sons for all of your electrical needs.

We had a chandelier to be installed in the foyer with a 20 foot ceiling. Mike did a great job with the installation, arrived on time, and worked with us on the correct height for the chandelier. We have used him before and will use him again.

We troubleshot the bathroom circuit controlling the bathroom receptacles. We found several faults in the main powder room receptacle and 2nd floor hall bathrooms. We have repaired these faults and replaced the powder room receptacle. In addition we replaced the doorbell chime and transformer located in the kitchen.
Customer is having issues with his dishwasher trippin the circuit breaker while in use. We troubleshot circuit and found that the dishwasher is trippin bother arc fault protected circuits as well when it is plugged into them and the breaker diagnostic code is reading a ground fault/ grounded neutral (which means the current has found an alt. This means that there is something internally wrong with the dishwasher. We then plugged the microwave into the dishwasher circuit and it worked flawlessly. We recommend having an appliance technician inspect dishwasher or have it replaced. Installed whole home surge protector in main panel. This unit will protect homes electrical system from damaging voltage spikes by dispersing it back out through the grounding system.
Completed quoted work. Ran new dedicated 50 amp 240volt line through basement ceiling out to th ebasement walkout and installed a new 50 amp GFCI disconnect. I then ran new line up under the 1st for deck over to the closet pillar to the hot tub and ran liquid tight into the tub and wired accordingly. Once new tub was wired we turn power on and it fired right up. Customer is ready for final electrical inspection.
Installed new customer supplied wall sconce light on front of home and at side entrance in place of existing older fixtures. Installed 4 customer supplied battery powered smoke detectors. Replaced rear GFCI and installed an in-use cover. Removed rear left flood light and installed a blank plate. Tested power to rear right flood light and found that the motion sensor was no longer working so we made the switch control it. Repaired switch controlled outlet i front right bedroom.
Master bath light fixture had aluminum wire in junction box spliced with copper and the wrong type of wire nut. Removed all splices an re did them using alumicons. Re hung light and it worked as it should. Also removed a outdoor receptacle in front of home that had been ran using romex and it was exposed outside which is not allowed by code. Also removed 3 flood lights in back of home and installed 2 new company provided ones controlled by 1 motion detector/photocell.
