Today’s work included providing estimate to repair attic fan that is no longer working
Today’s visit was to take a look at a broken dimmer switch. When I arrived, I took a look at the switch, which was not turning on the living room recessed lights. I also took a look at the main electrical panel, which had some corrosion present as well as paint in the interior. The service cable entering the home is very damaged on the exterior, to the point that the sheathing is almost entirely gone. I brought this to the homeowner’s attention, and she told me that she was already aware. I also saw that most of the receptacles/switches in the home were more original and some were painted over/damaged. The homeowner declined any solutions for a whole-home redevice and/or panel replacement and exclusively wanted me to replace the dimmer switch with a rotary-style dimmer. I picked up a replacement rotary dimmer and replaced the broken one, all dimmers for the living room are now working well. - removal and replacement of broken dimmer switch controlling living room recessed lights
This solution includes the replacement of a switch with a new customer supplied switch. We have replaced the basement bathroom switch.
Today we preformed our whole home electrical check. The service was recently replaced by one of our technicians. Everything for that was in perfect working order. We went throughout the home to check all the devices and found old backstabbed devices. We recommended a whole home re-device, and the customer wants to hold off on this until she is ready. We found lack of GFCI for the washer outlet and unfinished area, and for today she only wanted it for the washer. Lastly, she had a project for a dedicated circuit for the bedroom, and today we installed that. We ran a dedicated 20 amp circuit from the main electrical panel to the bedroom adjacent to the basement unfinished area, where the electrical panel is located. Installed a receptacle in the middle of the outside wall, and terminated the circuit on a 20 amp QO arc fault breaker. Replaced GFCI by sink basin.
Called out today to investigate a GFCI that was tripping. Customer directed us to the basement unfinished area, where the GFCI was tripped. The tripped receptacle usually had the water heater plugged into it. I saw that there was another wire coming out of the receptacle box. This led me to the sump pump opposite of the receptacle. When I unplugged the sump pump, I was able to reset the GFCI. I plugged the sump pump into another GFCI protected circuit in the unfinished area, and it tripped the circuit. The sump pump is faulty and needs to be replaced.
