Circuit Panel Upgrade or Heavy Up Additions

A heavy-up circuit is a type of electrical circuit that is designed to handle a higher electrical load than a standard electrical circuit. This is typically achieved by increasing the size of the conductors and equipment used in the circuit, such as the wires, switches, and breakers. Heavy-up circuits are used in home-based businesses or for home hobbyists where there is a need for a large amount of electrical power to support machinery, lighting, or other high-demand equipment. The term "heavy-up" refers to the process of upgrading an existing electrical circuit to handle a higher electrical load.

Circuit panels may need an upgrade because they're outdated, don't have enough circuits, or you've done an addition or added additional features to your home that require more circuits.  Installing a pool or hot tub are just 2 examples of upgrades that might require an update to your circuit panel.  We also install circuit panels for new construction of Additional Dwelling Units (ADUs) and other residential buildings.

Dedicated circuits

Power For Backyard PondThere are other reasons to have a dedicated circuit besides the electric car charger mentioned above. You may be installing a pool or hot tub that requires its own circuit for safety or code requirements. If you've noticed issues like a hot tub plug getting hot, it could be a sign that your current setup isn’t handling the load safely. .You may be running power down to your outbuildings, or adding air conditioning or an electric stove to your home where you had none previously.  There are a variety of reasons you may need a dedicated circuit - our team of licensed electricians near you can help you make the need a reality!

Columbia MD Electrical FAQs

Q: How much does an electrician near me in Columbia MD cost?
A: A basic wiring and electrical repairs will run from $300 for a basic repair to over $600 for more complex issues and installations. Each company may have a different way of charging to come out. Some may have a 1 or 2-hour minimum, some may have a call-out charge plus an hourly rate, then charge inflated material costs while others like us have a service charge and a flat rate (aka fixed price repair cost). We prefer this method as it is never based on the electrician’s speed or efficiency and provides constant pricing for you. You will know the exact cost prior to doing the work with no surprises at the end.

Q: Why should I hire an electrician?
A: You may want to hire an electrician if you encounter any of the following situations:

Your electrical systems are malfunctioning.

Some electricians provide 24/7 electrical services since electrical malfunctions can occur when you least expect them to. To get help with your electrical repair or installation, contact us today.

Q: When should you upgrade your electrical panel?
A: It is recommended to replace and or upgrade the electrical system every 30 years. Electrical systems are the least serviced system in the entire home and often have underlying issues that need to be addressed but never get attention until there is a problem. Parts of the system can rot, corrode, wear out, and stop working properly under manufacturer specs, and changes in the electrical code provide a much safer electrical system for your home.

Q: How much does it cost to upgrade an electrical panel?

-GFCI Replacement - V.I.P Membership Reason for today’s visit with the customer was a loss of power in the garage. Upon arrival I tested the first receptacle in the garage and discovered 0 Volts. This led me to tracing out the wires into the master bathroom. Upon removal of the GFCI the wires popped out of the back. Additionally, the wiring for this GFCI was extremely sloppy with almost 5 inches of romex sheathing in the box. When testing the wires there was still 0 Volts. This led me to go into the other neighboring bathroom that had a tripped GFCI. I reset it but it did not send power to the master GFCI. I would later learn that this neighbor bathroom GFCI is on an entirely different circuit. I continued my adventures looking for GFCI’s. This led me downstairs to the basement bathroom. In there was A GFCI that was tripped. I reset this one as well. In that same basement bathroom was a sump pump on a GFCI underneath a latch. This GFCI was not tripped. The panel is an older CH. Cust

Reason for today’s visit with the customer was to inspect and quote installation of three bath fans. Upon arrival customer was complaining of a constant muggy / mildew smell coming from the bathrooms that started this year. After investigation I discovered the upstairs bathroom fans were 110 CFM and had proper venting going through the roof. The foyer bathroom although older still worked but this bathroom did not have a source of high humidity. After conferring with the owner and discussing we agreed that there was a high probability something deeper going on here than the bathroom fans. At this point we recommend reaching out to an inspector or someone who can do thermal scans of the wall to make sure there isn’t a leak or potential growth going on inside the home. I provided quotes to replace all three bathroom fans while I was here.

Reason for today’s visit with the customer was troubleshooting a non working light in the kitchen. Upon troubleshooting it I discovered the ballast had gone out on it. I recommended replacing it with a new Integrated LED light that is roughly the same size. The panel is an older General Electric panel that is in dire need of replacing. The neutral bar is corroded, the breakers are showing signs of overheating, and the panel in general is beyond its expiration date. Beside it is a FPE Disconnect that the A/C company bypassed and used as a junction box. However, they landed their wires under the FPE Terminals and because they didn’t fit they cut off many of the strands for the ground. I provided a quote to replace the panel. This quote includes permitting, emergency disconnecting means, and surge protection as required by current electric Code. He also complained of the attic fan having gone out. I recommended replacing it with a new QuietCool Attic fan. We would replace the old motor an

We had a major panel replacement an upgrade that took three days. Josh and Tyler were thorough, professional and a pleasure to work with. They made sure everything was done properly and cleaned up after all the work was completed. They stayed very late on the third day to make sure the house had power everywhere. We would definitely use Haas again for electrical work.
